~~~Tigers ~~~(diz is done with via *__^)
In my eyes burn the endless fury,
And my heart is just a flurry
I will die, I see it clearly,
In the claws of Man, terribly.
Trapped in the cage,
My heart is full of rage.
For I lived in the trees,
Forever free.
Now comes the terrible beast,
Scowling at me, awaiting a feast.
For the fortune they earn with my body,
They torture me in captivity.
In my eyes, well the tears,
In my heart, grow the fears.
Will this be the only fate for us tigers?
Will we tire, searching for saviours?
Set us free! Set us free!
Please let us be where we used to be!
~~~ 晨 ~~~
~~~The Omen~~~
The car travelled on the peaceful road, filled with strings of joyous laugher. The sky was an expanse of blue, dotted with magnolia white clouds. The family joked and chatted, planning a picnic in the park. Out of a sudden, like the bolt of the blue, the short-lived laughter turned into screams of horror when they saw the car coming straight at them. The father swerved to the right immediately but in vain, the two cars collided with a deafening crash. Everywhere was splattered with blood in the devastated car, everything seemed to haven turned upside down, June's head burned with an excruciating pain. "Dad...mum...Joe..." Dark thick blood oozed out from their head, no one responded. " No! No...please don't die...help...help..."
June bounced up with a start, sitting on the bed, staring into the sheer darkness of the night. Cold sweats tickled down her forehead, her heart pounding, she gasped hard for breath. " June? Are you all right? What's it?" Joe, June's older sister asked, touching June's ice-cold hands, which clutched tightly. " There is going to be... death in our family..." The soft but sharp words murmured out of June’s pale white lips.
The Lee family was a science family, with a physicist father and a doctor mother. To them, anything without a proper scientific explanation was considered untrue, superstitions and omens was one of them. However, this unsuperstitious gene was not passed down to their younger daughter. June, a born introverts who was always seen as quiet, weird and somebody who keep everything to herself in the eyes of others. The biggest difference between her and her family was that she was a very superstitious person, living in a world of omens and signs.
It was a few weeks ago when June was alone in the house, reading her superstitions book in her room. Out of the blue, an ear-splitting sound pulled her out of the land of omens. Cautiously, June walked towards the source of the sound - her parents' room, sensing bad things to come. Seeing what was in front of her, paralyzed with horror, June stood rooted to the floor. There, opposite her, were the broken fragments of the mirror, which used to be hung on the wall beside the bed of her parents.
Looking at the broken reflections of her ghastly pale face in the mirror, June remembered vividly the lines in one of the books she had read: if a mirror on the wall drops and breaks on its own, someone in the house is going to die.
The broken mirror seemed to have cast a shadow on June, the following days for her were like nightmares. In the classroom, June's left eyelid twitched, symbolizing bad thing approaching. The broken mirror flashed again and again in her mind, causing her unable to concentrate. " June? June Lee! Can you answer my question!" The stern voice of the teacher stopped June from dwelling in her terrible thoughts. She looked at the whiteboard, all over it wrote: the broken mirror,she looked around, there were fragments of mirror everywhere. "No!!!" She screamed.
On the way home, June kept her head low, eyes darting around and then it came the ear piercing screech sound. Before she could figure out what happened, there, in the middle of the road, was a black cat, lying in a pool of red. June stood motionless with horror, sick to her stomach at the horrendous sight. That was an omen, a bad omen. June started to run full speed, the sight of the dead black cat appeared in front of her eyes, she continued to run, faster and faster. The uncomfortableness in her had turned into great fear.
Upon reaching home, June darted into her room, suspiciously watching out for anything amiss. Scanning through the room, her heart skipped a beat upon seeing the things on her bed, which was near the window.
On the bed, scattered some black bird feathers. A bird must haven flown into the room. June's pulses raced as the superstition of a bird in the house flashed across her mind. " A bird in the house brings the sign of death." " No...nobody is going to die...not anyone!!!" Tears welled up in her eyes and soon they broke free. With a thud, June sat onto the floor, terrible thoughts raced though her mind while terror tore her into sheds.
Since that, there was a magnificent change in June. She became suspicious, get worried over every little thing. " Why is dad not home so late! Something must have happened..." "Where is mum? Lets call her, Joe!" "Dad, are you sure Joe is going to be all right? It is so late and she is still..." Everybody noticed the change, not only that, but also the physical change. June had grown obviously thin, her face colour was no longer pinkish like she used to be, but replaced with a pale yellow. Heavy eye bags had shown clearly that she had not been sleeping well, but stubborn June decided to keep the omens under the wrap.
Then, there was the worst nightmare and she could not keep the secret anymore, after all, she was just a thirteen years old girl. Looking at her worried sister, June broke out into sobs. After half an hour of listening in silence, Joe finally spoke up. "Well,
June, you do not have to worry about all these untrue things, they are just superstitions! They won't come true, come on, do not scared yourself, it is just coincidence, nothing is going to happen to any of us!" "No! You just don't understand!" June blurted out, almost yelling, telling her sister how her pet hamster had died after she walked under a ladder on Bad Friday. "I lost my wallet straight away after a black cat walked away from me! These omens are all true! The superstitions will come true one day!" Joe patted gentle on June's trembling shoulder.
The following days passed without any bad signs, the fear had begun to die down inside June, although the omens still remain engraved in her mind. "See, I have told you, nothing is going to happen, it’s just your own fear." Joe chuckled. June returned a smile, but deep in her heart, she still believed that something bad was going to happen.
It was a month after the incidents and the terrible omens had totally disappeared in June. Maybe I was really being too suspicious, June thought to herself. Looking at the dark ominous cloud gathering in the sky, she decided to close the window. Just then, the telephone rang. "Hello, is this the home of Mr Lee Hong Kheong?" "Um...I am her daughter...yes?" "OK this is the Singapore National Hospital calling, Mr Lee had met with an car accident just now and had passed away in the hospital half an hour ago, hello...hello?"
The cordless phone dropped onto the floor. June's face turned into sheer whiteness, with a knee-wobbling sensation, she landed heavily on her bottom. "Hello? Hello?" from the phone came the caller's voice, but June was froze, speechless. A lightening flashed across the dull sky followed by claps of thunder, a curtain of rain fell from the heaven. ****
~~~ 分~~~
~~~~ Mid autumn festival ~~~~
A jade ball hangs high in the chilly sky,
The pale light falls and flows with the water in the river.
And yet it’s again the reunion time, fifthteenth August it falls
On which the moon lady Chang er flied
A white faultless plate hangs high in the chilly sky,
Colorful effulgence shined everywhere, in the dark night.
Springs of Laughters filled the cooling air,
All appeared beautiful under the pure dim light.
A smiling face hangs high in the chilly sky,
Watching the Earth silently, with all the blessings in the moonlit night
Bitterness, sweetness, we all taste, in the moon cakes, in the tea
Happy or sad, we all share.
A full moon hangs high in the chilly sky;
All say it's the same everywhere, round and bright.
But how can one be sure thousands of miles away
Wind and perhaps rain may not be marring the night?
~~~~ Myth of Singapore ~~~
A very long time ago, when the Earth was still at its primitive slumber, there was a small farming village at the center point of the Earth globe. The villagers depended on farming for living. Despite the plain and simple life, they lived happily. At that time, there were four seasons in a year, each in charged by a god. Sprina, the spring god, Summi, the summer god, Autama, the autumn god and Snower, the winter god.
The four gods were good friends and took turns to come out for their duties every year. In spring, everything became lively and cheerful. Villagers then started to collect their harvest for the hard works. During summer, the excited children jumped into the river and played their hearts out while adults stayed under the tall, green trees, chatting comfortably. When autumn came, it “rained” maple leaves and cool autumn breezes filled the air. Finally, when Snower came out, the village was coated with a layer of white. Children wrapped with thick clothes started making snowmen, playing with snowballs. Peace and happiness were maintained
While everyone was contended with what they had, the summer god, Summi, began to fell unsatisfied. He hoped that it would be summer all year round so he could always be with the villagers. As days passed by, Summi’s desire grew. He racked his mind and finally, an idea flashed across his head.
It was in autumn when Summi approached Autama. "Dear Autama, I really treated you as my dearest friend that I can't keep this anymore!" "Dear Summi, what is it?"Autama asked gently, but his worried eyes betrayed his eagerness. "Well...actually, Snower disliked you very much, he says that you are the most useless one among us, all you can do is to turn leaves in to ugly, dull orange colour." Overcame with great shock and disappointment, Autama broke into tears, drops of rain started to fall. Soon, his sadness turned into burning fury.
The next day, Sprina got a visit from Summi. "My closest friend Sprina! I really can't hide this from you anymore, my heart is aching!" "Tell me what happened!" Said Sprina eagerly, bubbling with curiosity. "Autama had been putting on a awful comment on you! He says that you are totally a fool and does nothing useful to the villagers." Sprina’s face clouded and flew into a rage.
Summi did the same thing to Snower, telling him how Sprina had criticized him at his back. "I will not let him off!" Snower hit the roof and growled.
Soon, a tremendous fight broke off among the three furious gods, Sprina, Autama and Snower. Spring roared, causing claps of thunder. Autama blew gushes and gushes of strong wind that whirled tons of leaves in the sky. Snower created the most violent snowstorm, bone-piercing wind filled the atmosphere.
The villagers suffered great changes of the weather. Houses were destroyed, farms were ruined, trees were struck down and many people died in this tragic disaster.
Finally, after three days of intense fight, both Sprina and Autama died of exhaustions while Snower escaped to the North Pole of the Earth. At this moment, Summi, who had been hiding at a corner, came out. His plan was a successful one, he was the only season god left now. Naturally, the village became hot all year round.
Unfortunately for Summi, his plan was not a flawless one. It was all witness by Rana, the god of rain. " Let me come out to give rain whenever I want or I will report your evil deed to the Great Lord!" Threatened Rana. Afraid of the severe punishments he might get, Summi agreed to Rana’s request. Since then, the village rained often.
The Great Lord, head of all gods discovered that the people in the village were suffering from famine due to the ruined farms. He turned the farming village into a fishing village and named it Singapore, which means "summer village" in the god's language.
